A Note from the President Kim: 

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.  Hope everyone made a New Year resolution, to come join us at your business meetings and social meetings.  If anyone needs a ride please let me know.  I will get better at these newsletters by the time, I am out of office. Current News:

Sam Heald was initiated at your January meeting.  We will be having two new members' initiated at our February, 2010 meeting.

It is that time a year again so if we have any cancellations I will send out an email and call the elks and let them know.  Anyone that I do not have their email we will get a phone call to you.  If you have not heard anything and are curious please either email or call.

If anyone needs a scholarship application please let Brittany know.  Scholarship applications for Rockland Emblem Club are due March 4, 2010 at our business meeting.

Martha Calinda, beano chairman can always use beano workers, bakers, people to help setup and any other donations.  If you can help please contact Martha.ca

We have an auction on Saturday January 23, 2010, if anyone can work or donate please call Charlotte Mills or Martha Calinda.

We will be having your past president supper on February 18, 2010; social hour will be 5:30 to 6:00, with dinner to follow.  This dinner is to honor our past presidents, so please come to help us honor them.  Please RSVP.

We were able to do several presents for each of the residents at Lucette, Seven Tree Manor, some residents at Knox Nursing Home, Rocky house low income housing in Thomaston, Rankins and Methodist home.  We also did big general boxes containing items such as puzzles, games, stuffed animals, word search books, sweatshirts/pants, pj's, hankies, lap ropes and toiletry articles for the Knox Nursing home and Windward Gardens.  We gave presents to 5 semi shut-ins and 14 Emblem sisters that do not make it out much.  A total of 106 people were given presents from our club.  Beverly Brown and Martha Calinda delivered all the wrapped presents and pictures were taken, many were very grateful.  The cost to the club – was priceless!!!!! We voted to send money in memory of Susan Oliver's grandmother and congratulations to Kristi Fish for a new grandchild.  Please let Barbara Guy know if anyone needs ray of sunshine or congratulations.

The Elks are having a Friday night supper on Saturday January 30th.  The Elks State President will be there.  If you can help serve the meal please let me know.

We gave Sam our new member some money towards her trip to Dominic Republic to help build the community and teach the kids how to play sports.  They are collecting school supplies and clothing items the women and girls only where dresses, if you would like to donate anything to this cause please bring it to the social meeting January 21 or to the Georges Valley High School.

Brittany Payson is selling tickets for a basket raffle for the month of March; if you would like to purchase any of them they are 5 dollars each, please see Brittany or Anna Sodergren.

The Lura Libby School is celebrating National Thank You Month by making cards and collecting items for the troops in Kosovo and Afghanistan.  The items that they need are hot chocolate or cocoa mix, ground coffee, dry soup mixes, Valentine Day candies, Girl Scout cookies, hand and toe warmers, long underwear or thermals, black or green socks (wool or cotton), black or green knit hats, olive green or black fleece blankets, heartwarming or funny DVDs or movies, blank Valentine cards for troops to send home and Valentine Day decorations.  If any would like to donate anything to this box please bring it to the Social meeting January 21st and I will make sure it gets to the Lura Libby School.

This year's installation will be on April 10th at 11am mark your calendars.
