A "SUMMER" Word (or two) from our President, Freida Carpenter...

Greetings,

June was a Blessingly busy month in Emblem. The first weekend of the month, I attended the annual Emblem Club State
Convention in Sanford .. It might have been raining outside but we had a wonderful weekend of fun and fellowship with our
Emblem Members from across the States of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Congratulations to our new State President Diana Oliver and her slate of officers. Barbara Guy as State Jr Past President served as installing Officer for the installation of the new officers on Sunday with Kim Matthews as her installing Marshal.

On Sunday June 13th, the Emblem Club assisted the Elks with the Flag Day Ceremony. I have assisted with this ceremony for many years as it is personally very near and dear to my heart as an American Citizen. Kudos to ER Scott and Leading Knight Arthur for the embellishments this year. I personally felt those additional touches made it a much more dignified event. Thank you's go out to Barb, Rosemany and Judy for assisting and Mary for attending. Make sure to put it on your calendar to attend next year!

I assisted with the Friday night Elks Supper with the new Elks Members being honored. We honored the Dads with the Annual Father's Day Breakfast. Thanks to all the Emblem members who assisted along with Boy Scout Troop #206 and to Donnie and John for their guidance.

I received a trophy from Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Mid Coast Maine for my fundraising efforts towards that worthy organization. Thanks to the Elks and Emblem members for sponsoring me. 1 believe approximately $75,000 was raised in this years campaign. On July I will be serving on staff at the 100th Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree. Check out their web site at www.bsajamboree.org.

I hope everyone has a safe summer filled with fun, family and friends.

With Emblem Love, Freida Carpenter

CLUB NEWS -- July/August 2010

Our June meeting was a busy one talking about what was going to be happening while we are having a summer break.

We did very well at the auction snack bars in June. There will be another auction on July 26. Please offer to help or donate. You can call Martha 236-4079 or Charlotte 354-6478 to see what you can do to help. Remember, Bingo and Auction snack bars keep us going. We are doing very well at both of these. We are desperate for workers. Please volunteer.

There were 6 of us that went to State Convention in Sanford. We had a wonderful time. Put State Convention on your calendar for next year. It is the first weekend in June and will be in Farmington.

Charlotte did the workshop Friday night about Supreme Convention 2013. With the help of PSP Dottie MacKenzie (Charlotte's advisor) Kim Matthews (Convention Chairman) and Louise Dorr (Convention Co Chairman) we had an enjoyable question and answer session. Kim was the hostess in the hospitality room and had a straw raffle to benefit"Make a Wish". Kim raised over $500 to donate to Make a Wish. Thanks to Sanford Emblem Club for hosting a great weekend. Make plans to attend next year.

Martha, Anita, and Charlotte went to New Hampshire State Convention in Nashua. This is always a fun weekend. New Hampshire Convention is the second weekend in June. It has been great to share these good times with our neighbors. Next year the New Hampshire Convention will be in Portsmouth. It would be really great to have more of us there to support New Hampshire Supreme convention is in September. This year it is in Nashville. Next year Bellview,Washington, Then Savannah, Georgia. The following year Maine will be hosting a convention when Charlotte is Supreme President. We don't know yet where this convention will be, we are still searching for a great city to show everyone we can put on a great convention. We will be able to make better plans when we secure a hotel for convention.
